Barely two weeks after United Nations (UN) used former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to observe elections on its behalf in Mozambique, the world
seems to have abandoned him and jumped on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s side.
This was evident on Wednesday following a high powered meeting between President Kenyatta with UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, and World Bank President, Jim Yong Kim, together with other development partners at State House.
Addressing a joint Press Conference, the world leaders poured praises on President Uhuru Kenyatta and his leadership saying he is the best thing that ever happened to Kenya and Africa.
Ban Ki-moon commended Uhuru and his Government for the invaluable support they are offering in the region in terms of leadership, peace and humanitarian assistance to refugees and pledged full support for Jubilee.
Similar sentiments were echoed by the World Bank President who also committed to helping Uhuru realize devolution dreams in terms of expertise and resources.
“I am extremely encouraged by Uhuru’s leadership in Kenya and the World Bank has engaged in Kenya’s development challenges and opportunities,” said the World Bank President.
“Uhuru’s commitment to entrenching devolution makes a meaningful contribution to development at the grassroots and I assure him of my commitment to bringing the best knowledge and solutions from all over the world to ensure success of devolution,” he continued.
Others who held similar views were
representatives of Africa Development Bank, EU, AU and Islamic Development Bank.
