President Uhuru Kenyatta blasts CORD over land claims, Ruto demands apology

Kilifi, Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta revisited the ongoing debate on recent land scandals, accusing the Opposition of trying to tarnish his government as his deputy William.Ruto threatened legal action.

The President said Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders are out to gain popularity by raising unwarranted issues and
are applying divisive politics to remain relevant instead of preaching peace and unity.

Uhuru spoke as his Deputy William Ruto demanded retraction of ‘malicious’ statements that CORD leaders have been issuing linking
him to the Karen land saga in Nairobi or else they meet him in court.

The DP singled out Cord leaders.Johnstone Muthama, Elizabeth Ongoro, James Orengo, UDF Senator Boni Khalwale and MP Junet Mohamed.

While addressing a crowd at Karisa Grounds in Kilifi, Uhuru said CORD leadership could not appreciate anything good done by his government but keeps on accusing it to gain political mileage.

“There are some leaders in this country who will never praise my government for the good things but will keep on blasting it so that they can get sympathy from Kenyans,” he said.

On Wednesday, during a press conference after his return from a trip abroad, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, criticised the Jubilee
government on a number of issues, and called for mixed presidential and parliamentary system of government. But Friday, the President said his government is committed to addressing the squatter problem at the Coast and other regions and told Cord leaders not to interfere with the
process. Uhuru had visited Kenya Medical Research Institute in Kilifi where he officially opened a research training facility before
joining the staff to celebrate their 25th year anniversary.

Ruto, through his lawyer, Kioko Kilukumi and Company Advocates, said those who mentioned him adversely in the 135 acres Karen land saga must apologise. The Opposition claimed that senior officials in the Jubilee government are beneficiaries of the land saga.
Personal gain But in letters sent to each leader, dated October 23, 2014; Ruto distances himself from
the scandal and is demanding an apology from his accusers in the next seven days. Failure to which he will sue them for damages. Says the letter; “Our client’s attention has been drawn to a press statement you signed and issued on October 16, 2014.”

The statement by CORD stated that “high ranking personalities in the Jubilee Administration” have grabbed a parcel of land situated in Karen, Nairobi. It stated that the
land in question is public land irregularly allocated further asserting that ‘Kenyans have watched helplessly as the tyranny of numbers pillaged public resources and abused power for
personal gain under the superintendence of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy
William Ruto’.

Ruto’s lawyer stated: “Our instructions are that the contents of the statement are false, untrue
and malicious. The contents of the statement are factually incorrect. Our client neither owns a single inch of the land in question nor is he involved in any matter whatsoever with the disputed parcel of land.”

“It is our instruction that the substance and purport of the statement was calculated and designed to be understood by members of the public that our client was a land grabber, corrupt and an individual with an insatiable appetite for public land which drives him to abuse state power for personal gain. We
reiterate therefore that the contents of the statement were extremely malicious, defamatory and intended to soil, tarnish and
malign our client’s standing and reputation as Deputy President,” said the lawyer.

He argues that as a result of publication and broadcast of the statement, their client, Ruto, has been greatly injured in his credit, status and reputation, as well as exposed to hatred, ridicule contempt, humiliation and agony.
But Suna East MP Junet Mohamed remains defiant despite the threat of legal action: “I will not issue any apology because there is no need
for one. Let us meet in court.”

A section of Cord leaders was expected to appear before the Ethics and Anti Corruption
Commission (EACC) this week to give evidence they say will back their claims on the alleged
beneficiaries of the Karen land. They however failed to show up as earlier anticipated. President Uhuru has warned leaders against
making unsubstantiated claims on the matter.

Speaking in Kilifi Friday, Uhuru who was accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary for Health James Macharia said elected leaders
need to work together and foster development.

WHEN CANING IS NECCESARRY

I take this earliest opportunity to send my condolences and messages of good will to former Première as he recuperates from Monday’s caning. It was painful, barbaric, embarrassing and awful. I have watched that clip again and again, torn between laughing and feeling bad. The mzee snaked his way in the crowd like a U.S SEAL connoisseur unnoticed. Tinga was all this time swallowed in sweet hip shakings and dance with the Mzee’s wife to notice the looming lynching.
Like a skilled Moran, the Mzee bit his lower lip, raised the 5 kg bakora 8 Kilometers high and then descended it at a speed of 65 Km/hr. It landed on R.A.O’s bend back with a thud. Mheashimiwa suppressed a scream and jumped up akisugua the dented area.
Meanwhile Governor Mvurya was also receiving his dosage of ‘tatu bora’ from the kamzee.
As expected, Jubilee supporters were celebrating all over. They tossed chang’aa tins and send each other congratulatory messages. They even recommended Mzee Mudzomba be added to the list of MauMau fighters. Others baptized him the government chief whip. CORD supporters on the other hand went underground as soon as the bamboo cane landed, and I haven’t heard from any of them. The few who have talked have condemned the act, calling it jubilee orchestrated and a signal that RAO is not safe.

I must confess however, I have been tempted to think this mzee who caned Agwambo is the one who wrote “Fimbo Chapa” lyrics to DNA. Remember that the National Anthem was written by another mzee from the same village (just guessing) The unanswered question however is, why did Mzee Mudzomba cane R.A.O?

I have my opinion.

The first an obvious one is the story about the wife. Let’s us assume the man is insecure, over protective and with ego. He couldn’t stand the sight of his wife shaking her butt so willingly to another man. He feared RAO and Mvurya will chapa the wife with their ’fimbo’. He had to tell them to
keep their “Fimbos” away from his wife. The best way to do it was to hit them with a 'Fimbo’. A bakora on Agwambo’s back was better than Agwambo’s ‘bakora’ in her wife.
I also again want to think that he didn’t actually cane RAO. He didn’t intend to either. He was just dancing and waving his fimbo in
the air when he tripped due to old age and fell, unfortunately on Raila’s back. It was just
a slight accident, where nobody was hurt.
The government, media and enemies of development as expected anyway exaggerated it, making it appear as if Raila was caned, beaten, thrashed and trodden like a Burukenge. Msheew!

The other close reason may be to do with the Referendum campaign. The signatures were being collected and mzee wanted to sign. I think he confused where the signatures were to be put, and he thought it was on Raila’s back. I don’t know why he thought thrashing Raila was equivalent to signing on the referendum, maybe confusion of old age sgain. Or maybe he wanted to just tap Raila on the back and request the Signature paper to sign. The tapping turned out to be a bit painfull. Maybe. Anyway come Mzee’s canes come Duale’s
insults, referendum Lazima.

It’s no secret that Miley loves smoking weed plus she also confessed “Weed is the best drug on earth”. Blame The Deteriorating Level Of Literacy On The ‘Xwitx’, ‘Plz’, ‘XOXO’ Generation

The need to keep up with the Smartphone technology that only has 160 characters for a single message has caused a wave of confusion among everyone given that people have devised ways to keep their SMS in line with their intentions.

However, only a certain percentage of those who sent and receive short text messages actually understand the intended idea in the message. For instance, we have a bunch of teenagers who replace X with S and their messages go like “Hey there, plz w8 4 me in yo rum. Xoxo”

Sincerely speaking, just a few people particularly those within the Y Generation understand these messages. According to the Education permanent secretary Jacob Kaimenyi, the dismal performance displayed in the 2013 KCSE exams were somewhat directly blamable on technology especially due to the heightened dependence on electronic communication devices.

Apparently, the texting craze has taken over what was once written and as Kaimenyi pointed out, this aspect is having a devastating effect on the performance of many students. This is so because the literacy levels of many students are dropping significantly if the 2013 KCSE results are anything to go by.

With the majority of users of social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook being the Y Generation, words like or whatever they are for that matter, ‘pls’, ‘txt’, xoxo, ‘sam1’ and kam among others are very common.

Juliani Teams Up With Jaguar To Rescue ‘Kalamashaka’ Rappers From Drug Addiction

Kenyan Top Gospel Rapper Juliani and Nairobi flamboyant Singer Jaguar have come out to express their concern for the increased drug addiction problem among Kenyan Artists. This comes after a disturbing article that was published by one of the dailies on a story of Rap Pioneers ‘Kalamashaka’ which has two of its members ruined by drugs.

Jaguar who is also a former drug addict says he was really moved by Johnny Vigetti’s story. Johnny Vigetti was released from prison the very day Jaguar was shooting his Kioo video at the industrial prison. Jaguar’s Kioo track talks much about his struggles during his drug addiction days.

Johnny for along time was Juliani’s Mentor and he is accredited for Juliani’s success in the rap industry. Juliani has thus vowed to fight tooth and nail to help him overcome his addiction. “We are trying to help Vigetti beat the addiction. Plans are already underway to take him to a rehab,” says Juliani.

On the other hand, Jaguar told the standard that with the little that he has, he’s been trying to help artists involved in drugs overcome their addiction. “I have been trying to help these talented Kenyans who inspired a generation and made them dare to dream from the ghettos across Africa. It is time for the industry to help their own,”

Out of the three Kalamashaka members, only Kama is not an addict. He is currently a lecturer at some prestigious American Universities giving lessons on Hip-hop culture in Africa.

President Yoweri Museveni signs the Anti-Homosexuality Bill into law at State House in Entebbe 

UGANDAN PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has justified his signing of the Anti-homosexuality Bill into law.

The President said homosexuals must be punished harshly in order to defend the society from disorientation.

“Since nurture is the main cause of homosexuality, then society can do something about it to discourage the trends. That is why I have agreed to sign the Bill,” Museveni said.



Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed into law Monday a controversial bill that will see homosexuals jailed for life, defying international pressure and criticism.
“The president has just signed the anti-homosexuality bill,” said presidential spokeswoman Sarah Kagingo, calling it a “landmark” law.

Museveni’s signing comes despite fierce criticism outside Uganda, with US President Barack Obama saying the law was a “step backward” that would complicate ties with Kampala and that he was “deeply disappointed” in the move

South African Nobel peace laureate Desmond Tutu said Sunday the law recalled sinister attempts by the Nazi and apartheid regimes to “legislate against love”.

The anti-gay bill cruised through parliament in December after its architects agreed to drop a death penalty clause, although the bill still says that repeat homosexuals should be jailed for life, outlaws the promotion of homosexuality and requires people to denounce gays.

Museveni, a key African ally of the United States and the European Union, has already been under fire from key Western donors over alleged rampant corruption, and had been under pressure from diplomats and rights groups to block the legislation.

“The president cannot be pushed by the international lobby groups… he has made it clear whatever he does will be in the interests of Uganda and not foreign interests,” presidential spokesman Tamale Mirundi told AFP.

“Uganda is a sovereign state and the decisions taken must be respected.”

The lawmaker behind the bill, David Bahati, praised the decision to sign it.

“This is the moment the world has been waiting for,” he told AFP.

“We thank our president for taking such a bold move despite pressure from a section of foreign organisations.

“The law is for the good of Uganda, the current and the future generations.”

Museveni, a devout evangelical Christian, earlier this month also signed into law anti-pornography and dress code legislation which outlaws “provocative” clothing, bans scantily clad performers from Ugandan television and closely monitors what individuals watch on the Internet.

Kenya To Host 2018 African Nations Championships (Chan).

A statement in CAF official website reveals that executive committee has settled for Kenya after receiving government guarantee from local body

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has designated Kenya as host of the 2018 African Nations Championships (Chan).

A statement in CAF official website, revealed that Caf executive committee had settled for Kenya after receiving government gurantee from Football Kenya Federation
The statement read in part, “The Caf Executive Committee has designated Kenya as host of the 2018 African Nations Championship (Chan), following receipt of necessary government guarantees and complete dossier including the required infrastructure and security.”

A Caf Special General meeting held on February 21, 2014, in Cairo, made the decision to award Kenya hosting rights for the tournament. President Sam Nyamweya termed the move as a milestone in Kenyan football.

“FKF wishes to tremendously thank the President of Caf, Issa Hayatou, and the entire Caf Executive Committee for bestowing us this honour, only a few days after our successful meeting in Capetown, South Africa, where we presented our bid.

“This is a big milestone in the growth journey of Kenyan football and we are extremely gratified and indeed honoured to have successfully bid for this great showpiece that gives the Kenyan people an opportunity to host the continent of Africa using the great game of football,” Nyamweya told Goal.

Nyamweya continued, “The real work begins now and we call upon all stakeholders and corporate partners to join hands with Kenyans and make the 2018 Chan tournament the best ever in the history of the event.

“A delegation from Caf will be visiting us to begin the process of setting up the administrative and logistical structures to implement the project and we look forward to Kenyans’ unwavering support to this process.
